About Me

Hi, I’m Simon L. Thanks for visiting my website.

My social media profiles describe me as: Teacher, writer, author, preacher, runner sailor. News junkie, tech obsessive. Lord of Sealand.

I was born and raised in the south of England, and after a little travelling around, that’s where I find myself now.

By day I’m a senior leader in a school, where I also teach History and Religious Studies & Philosophy. By night I – well, I’d like to say read, write etc, but nowadays I tend to try to sleep!

I am married to Claire, an emergency medicine consultant, and have two rapidly growing children.

As you might have spotted, I have a wide range of hobbies, interests and passions.

I am a Christian and enjoying Bible study and theology, hence why there’s quite a lot of Bible reflections on this site. In the past I have preached quite a bit, written a lot of online content for various different sites, and prepared and delivered ‘Thought for the Day’ segments for Premier Christian Radio.

I have a life long interest in politics and current affairs. I was previously a very active activist for the Conservative Party, but have fallen out with them in recent years (Brexit, Boris and Liz saw to that…). I maintain that it’s them that have changed, not me.

I enjoy sailing and have a Westerly Centaur on a mooring on the east coast. I love sailing her, but don’t use her as much as I should (especially in light of the significant amount of my money she sucks up…!).

Reading has always been a source of pleasure for me. I still try to read quite a bit and try to alternate between fiction and non-fiction. I enjoy a well-written literary novel, but also enjoy airport thrillers like the Reacher series by Lee and Andrew Child. In terms of non-fiction, I aim for a breadth of topics; there’s so much to find out about the world, and I enjoy finding topics interesting to which I was previously completely oblivious.

I also enjoy writing, and have published a children’s novel, a spy thriller and an extended reflection and study of Psalm 23. One day I will devote more time to my fiction writing. Tomorrow’s another day…

My musical interests are similarly broad. I really enjoy sitting in a warm auditorium watching an orchestra at work, and allowing the music to flow around me, yet I also love cheesy pop. I am a massive Abba fan! I’m also quite a fan of musicals. I personally play the flute and piano but again, not as much as I would like to.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in October 2020. Managing this is now a large part of my life, but I try not to let it be all-consuming. Sometimes that is rather hard, but then I don’t suppose anyone has ever found living with a chronic condition easy and straight forward.

That’s much more than you needed to know, so I’ll sign off there for now.

If you’d like to get in touch you can contact me through this site, or find me on various social media platforms:
